Dear Gerben,
We've released a new version of Dopplr (codenamed "Copenhagen"), and it's
packed with new features.
Public profiles
Every Dopplr traveller can now publish their own public profile page,
visible to anyone on the internet, which displays a short summary of past
and future trips on Dopplr. You get complete control of your profile: you
can hide it from view, or choose exactly what pieces of information it
displays about you and your travelling. The profile page is split into
modules which you can switch on and off. You can even embed modules on your
own web pages, if you like.
To publish, hide or edit your public profile, click this link:

Automated trip input via email, SMS and Twitter
Many of you have told us that you'd like easier ways to get information
about your trips into Dopplr. We've been working on ways to automate this as
much as possible. Now you can add trips to Dopplr via email, SMS message, or
Twitter.
You can email your itineraries, e-tickets, bookings, or just a short note to
trips@dopplr.com. Dopplr will look for dates and places and create a draft
trip, which you can confirm later. Once the trip is active, you can forward
relevant emails like hotel reservations to us, and they will be
automatically attached to that trip.
If you register your mobile phone number with us, you'll be able to add
trips via SMS text message:
http://www.dopplr.com/account/sms
And finally, Twitter users can send a trip details to @dopplr on Twitter:
http://www.dopplr.com/account/twitter
There's more about this on our blog: http://tinyurl.com/5jztrx
And if you'd like to read more about how it works behind the scenes, there's
also
http://blog.dopplr.com/2008/07/23/how-dopplr-learns/
We hope this new release makes it easier for you to get your travel details
into Dopplr. We value your feedback, so please do let us know what you think
of the new features. To keep up-to-date with our news, keep an eye on the
Dopplr blog: http://blog.dopplr.com
Wishing you safe travels as always,
The Dopplr Team.

Editor's Note: Losing the PageRank patent could be troubling for Google, but the broader scope of patent reform-something Google has championed otherwise-is intended to protect innovators from the itchy trigger finger of an overly litigious society. What you you think? Good idea? Let us know in the comments section.
Google climbed past a morass of ineffective search engines when it arrived on
the Internet. Its devotion to the most relevant possible solution for a given
query quickly made it the de facto search choice as millions of people shifted
their browsing habits from walled garden content to the broader World Wide Web.
The essential and much-discussed
technology holds a patent, a common legal protection sought by software
developers small and large. Some have claimed software patents affect far too
broad a scope of potential innovation, leading to lawsuits where a patent owner
claims damages by multiple companies.
